Board of Directors

Sophorn Cheang, President

Sophorn Cheang currently serves as Director of Business Oregon. Prior to that, Sophorn served as the Director of the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for Governor Kate Brown since 2018. In this role she oversaw the development of state business policies to eliminate bias and barriers and provided economic opportunities for all Oregon businesses through equity practices in state procurement and community economic development. Cheang also co-coordinated the Governor's Racial Justice Council.

Prior to her work with the Governor's Office, Sophorn served as Senior Community Development Manager and Director of the Asian Family Center for the Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization (IRCO), where she developed and directed culturally specific programs and services for immigrants and refugees; mobilized diverse community leaders across the state to address social and racial injustices; and performed other strategic planning and advocacy work.

Her career and personal interest involve around advocacy, economic and business equity, community engagement and empowerment locally and internationally. It is her passion to be part of the solutions to help both local and global communities to grow and foster hope and prosperity. In her free time, Sophorn serves as the Executive Director for the Golden Leaf Education Foundation, President of Building Power for Communities of Color, and Secretary of Red Means Help. Sophorn has an MBA from Willamette University and a bachelor's degree in finance from Portland State University.

Antonio Lara, Secretary

Antonio Lara is the Chief Marketing Officer of Lara Media Services LLC. He has worked at Lara Media Services (LMS) since 2001. As Chief Marketing Officer, his primary responsibility is to grow LMS’s clients’ portfolio, provide strategic guidance as part of agency’s leadership team, manage projects and marketing campaigns for clients, manage relationships with advertising trade journalists and editors, and direct the application of communications tools to promote the agency including the use of Public Relations and Marketing tools to raise brand awareness and build the corporate reputation of the agency among key audiences, such as current clients, prospects, partner agencies and media.

With a bachelor’s degree in mechanical and industrial engineering from ITCH in Chihuahua, Mexico, Antonio began his career in Chihuahua, Mexico, as supervisor and project manager for Essex, a subsidiary of Chrysler.

Antonio is passionate about serving his Latinx community. He serves on the Boards of Directors of the Voz Workers' Rights Education Project, Building Power for Communities of Color, Portland’5 Advisory Committee, the City Club of Portland, and Oregon Environmental Council.

Ricardo Lujan-Valerio

Gloria Ochoa-Sandoval

Gloria Ochoa-Sandoval works as the Policy & Political director at Unite Oregon. She has worked in politics for the last 8 years with several non-profit organizations, ballot measure campaigns, varying levels of candidate campaigns and both the Oregon and U.S. House of Representatives. Her mission is to fight for health equity and greater immigrant and refugee rights.

Sahaan McKelvey

Sahaan McKelvey is the Director of Restoration and Identification at Self Enhancement, Inc. Sahaan gives leadership, direction, and support to the Community + Family Programs department and staff who provide life-changing services to approximately five thousand people (adults and children) per year.

Sahaan knows that service to his community is his calling and creating opportunities for others to live their optimal lives is his passion.  His only goal is to help you reach yours!

Sahaan has worked with Self Enhancement, Inc. since 2011 and has been instrumental in developing multiple programs that provide true enhancement opportunities for his community.  Sahaan has been an involved voice in multiple jurisdictional systems and has helped to bring about productive change for his community as part of the; Welcome Home Steering Committee, A Home for Everyone Coordinating Board, and the All Ready: Regional Kindergarten Readiness Network.  Sahaan was also a very active partner with Metro in their recent campaigns to raise local funding for affordable housing and continues to work with Metro as part of the Supportive Housing Stakeholder Committee.

Sahaan is a certified trainer through Trauma Informed Oregon to provide training in Trauma Informed Care and has been a featured presenter in trauma informed practice and services for both Empath and Trauma Informed Oregon.  Sahaan is a sought-after voice for culturally-specific change in his community.

Sahaan holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from Corban University.

Coi Vu

Coi Vu is a first generation refugee from Vietnam, born in a refugee camp in Malaysia, and has called Oregon home for over four decades. Raised by a single mother of three and her aunties, she understands the struggles of low-income families and the fear of not having adequate healthcare, language access, and food on the table. Because of this, she has dedicated over twenty years in social services, advocacy, and nonprofit leadership serving underrepresented communities.

Coi is the Executive Director of the Coalition of Community Health Clinics, a network of 17 community health clinics dedicated to improving healthcare for vulnerable populations. Prior to that, she was the Director of the Pacific Islander and Asian Family Center and Senior Manager to the Community Development Department with the Immigrant Refugee Community Organization (IRCO), serving the immigrant and refugee population in Oregon with direct social services, leadership development, and policy and advocacy work. At Open School, Coi was the Director of Step Up Programs serving underrepresented Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) youth. She oversaw and developed public programming for Multnomah County’s 17-library system. Coi spent much of her earlier career at Impact NW, where she managed the senior and adults with disabilities case management programs and the SUN program at Woodmere Elementary.

Coi is also the Governor-appointed State of Oregon Youth Council-person, Mayor-appointed City of Portland Human Rights Commissioner, State of Oregon Racial Justice Health Equity Committee member, Tri-County Vaccine Equity Strategy Planning Committee member, former-elected National Council Person for the United Nations Association and former Attorney General-appointed Biased and Hate Crime Steering Committee member, to name a few.

Coi holds a Bachelors of Science in Psychology and Masters of Arts in Education. Her identity and background continues to be the catalyst for her passionate work with communities of color, the immigrant and refugee communities, and intersecting underrepresented and low-income communities.

Staff

Marcus C. Mundy, Executive Director

Marcus C. Mundy, Executive Director, has also served as the Coalition of Communities of Color’s Executive Director since 2018. Prior to joining CCC, Mr. Mundy was Principal at Mundy Consulting LLC, where he assisted clients in various disciplines including equity, diversity and inclusion, development and administration, and compliance. His previous experience also includes serving as the President and CEO of the Urban League of Portland and the Vice President and Regional Compliance Officer for Kaiser Permanente Northwest.

Mr. Mundy earned his Bachelor of Business Administration at Howard University and his Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Oregon.

Mr. Mundy has served the community through his participation on numerous boards and community advisory positions, including the Governor’s Racial Justice Council, OHSU Foundation Board, the State Labor Commissioner’s Oregon Council on Civil Rights, the Oregon Community Foundation’s Regional Advisory Initiative, the Coalition for a Livable Future, EcoDistricts and the board of AGE+.

He is also a Senior Fellow in Oregon’s chapter of the American Leadership Forum. His proudest achievement, however, and forever, is as a father to his four children.

Jenny Lee, Managing Director

Jenny Lee, Managing Director, supports the programmatic and political work of Building Power for Communities of Color. She also serves as the Deputy Director at the Coalition of Communities of Color. Jenny has dedicated her career to racial, social, and economic justice. Past roles include serving as the Advocacy Director at both the Asian Pacific American Network of Oregon (APANO) and the Coalition of Communities of Color, Housing Policy Director at Neighborhood Partnerships, and Public Policy Director at Hawaii Appleseed. Jenny holds a J.D. from Harvard Law School and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Oregon.

Sol Mora, Political Manager

Sol Mora, Political Manager, also serves as the Civic Engagement Manager at Coalition of Communities of Color. Sol grew up in Salem, Oregon, and received her Bachelor’s degree in Women’s Studies from Portland State University. After graduating, Sol engaged in field organizing and campaigning roles to mobilize low-income and communities of color locally and statewide, including the We Count Oregon (2020 Census) campaign and the Yes for a Healthy Future (Yes on Measure 108) campaign.

In 2021 she led outreach and constituent engagement as a Legislative Aide in the Oregon State Legislature. Her approach to community engagement is centered on intersectionality, accessibility, racial justice, and uplifting communities on the ground. She enjoys reading poetry and non-fiction as well as writing memoir-based prose.

Damon Motz-Storey, Communications Strategist

Damon Motz-Storey, Communications Strategist at Building Power for Communities of Color, also serves as Communications & Development Manager at the Coalition of Communities of Color. Damon helped lead communications for both the Portland Clean Energy Fund ballot measure in 2018 and the Oregon Clean Energy Opportunity state legislative campaign in 2021. They have supported a wide variety of political campaigns such as electing Oregon State Representative Khanh Pham in 2020. Damon lives in East Portland where they enjoy riding their bike, exploring local taquerias and tea shops, and hiking Powell Butte.
